FAQ's

It is Logs which have been dried in a large Kiln. The firewood is cut and split and placed in the Kiln at a very high temperature, This process is much quicker than seasoning and allows for significantly more consistent moisture contents.

With kiln-dried firewood you are pretty much guaranteed a moisture content below 20%. This makes it ideal for getting a fire going for hours with minimal tending and ensures a “clean”, safe burn each time.

Ready to Burn is a certification launched by an organisation called Woodsure. The Ready to Burn mark shows that woodfuels are ready for immediate use. These logs burn more efficiently than unseasoned, green wood and reduce environmental impact.

Ready to Burn firewood has a moisture content of 20% or less; using it in place of wet wood fuel is proven to reduce the levels of emissions in the air we breathe. This is also better for your appliance and chimney.

FIREWOOD MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING STANDARDS:

  • The firewood must be kiln dried or seasoned to moisture levels below 20%.
  • ‘Ready to Burn’ label must be shown at point of sale – on a crate, pallet, invoice or poster – along with the relevant information.
  • Wood products sold in volumes over 2m3 do not need to be certified as Ready to Burn, but they must be sold with advice on drying and an explanation of the issues of burning wet wood.
  • Wet wood should be seasoned or dried for up to 2 years, or kiln dried at a
controlled temperature, before use to get it to 20% moisture content or less.

Where large crates do not meet the approved moisture levels, suppliers must provide information on how to properly dry the firewood themselves until it reaches 20% moisture content or less.

Definitely so! Kiln Dried Firewood is a better, more reliable choice than seasoned logs. Whilst some seasoned logs can be good quality, their moisture levels can be inconsistent. You cannot beat Kiln Dried Firewood as the logs are put into a kiln for a set time, at a specific temperature, this ensures the moisture levels are always below 20% – ready to burn!

With seasoned logs, the drying process is dependent on them being dried over a longer period of time. As the demand for logs goes up, it may be tempting for some suppliers to sell wood that isn’t quite ready for burning.

Yes, they can be stored outside. We would always recommend a Log Store or suitable cover which allows good air flow and keeps the logs off the ground.
